How to sell more band merchandise at your gigs

Put some thought into your band merchandise;

What you sell - Make the design something your fans will want to buy.
Presentation - Don't make the merch stand resemble a jumble sale.
Location - Your stand needs to be where the maximum amount of people will see it, for health & safety reasons it is important you liase with the venue to ensure they are happy with your set up location.
Lighting - The best location for the merch stand may not be well lit so it is important to carry lights with the merch this way you can effectively light the merch stand letting customers see what they are buying.
Promotion -  Promote your merch stand from the stage, don’t be afraid to advertise the fact you have ‘product’ to sell. Your band merchandise will not sell if no one knows it is there. Let the audience, your fans and potential new fans, know what you are selling; CD’s, band shirts etc.
Exclusive offers
Remember most people like to get a bargain, offer a free giveaway with a purchase of your latest CD or discount prices for multi item purchases.

If you have band merchandise that has slowed down on the sales front; an older CD or band tour clothing, either have a sale to clear or offer price reduction if purchased with another item of band merch
Staff -  Ensure there is someone at the merch stand at all times, You won't sell anything if there is no one available to take the money, items can go missing too!! The best people to sell your band merchandise are people connected to the group or even a committed fan, it is great to have somebody who can enthusiastically interact with browsing potential customers. Get them to wear some of the band clothing that is on sale.

MX-Pro TIP! – Always try to get at least one member of the band to go to the merch stand after the performance to talk to the fans, signing CD’s or posters. Most fans love to meet the band, this can be a great form of band promotion.
